The power of resilience
Mala Bhatt, Managing Director, Seidor Africa Eastern Africa, and Mauritius
Among the wave of women making strides in technology in Africa is Mala Bhatt, Managing Director of Seidor Africa Eastern Africa and Mauritius. The company has been the biggest SAP Business One provider in East Africa within the last 18 years and is one of very few technology company’s run by a woman in the region.
“Working in the IT industry for more than 20 years has not been easy. Women need to be strong, determined, and resilient and yet not lose themselves in the masculine world,” Bhatt says.
“My advice is to bring the best of you so that you can be the best you in the workplace. My secret to success is working with – and holding onto – a team that believes in me.”
It has been a difficult journey for women in business throughout Africa, but you can now see how the attitude of many business have changed in recent years. It is not about being a man or a women, but rather the skills you bring to the organisation. Respect is earned based on the input and output you give rather than your gender.
